George Carman once said "Law is an addictive profession". Being in the profession of law is not everyone's cup of tea and that's why we lawyers are very special.


Today we are going to discuss about the top 10 career opportunities in the field of law.


So let's start with number one.


1. Advocacy

In order to enroll yourself as an advocate. You have to clear an All India Bar Examination conducted by the Bar Council of India. Once you clear that exam you are enrolled as an advocate, after being enrolled as an advocate you have two career options i.e.

(i) To practice as a junior of a senior advocate in the various courts or


(ii) Start your own individual practice in the field of civil, criminal,constitutional, income tax, cyber law, intellectual property law any of the field which you like.

The second is to work as an associate or a junior partner under various renowned firms which provide packages of around 20-30 lacs per annum.


2. Judicial Services

Now the second career option is for those persons who want to be appointed in the judicial services. Who wants to get enrolled in the judicial services.They are appointed as the magistrates. 

Every state has its own judicial service exam. Once you clear that exam you are directly appointed as a magistrate. 

Also you have the career option to be appointed as a district judge for that the eligibility is that you must have an experience of 7 years of advocacy along with that the minimum age limit is 35 years. Once you have both the above eligibilities you have to clear an exam if you clear that exam you are appointed as a District Judge.


3. PSC Exams

Now the 3rd career opportunity is Public Service Commission Exam. In this you have the vacancy and you can be appointed as a Junior Law Officer and also as Assistant Public Prosecutor.


4. Competitive Exams

Number 4th is Competitive Exams. In competitive exams one can be appointed as a law officer in various Banks and under various Multinational Companies.

Both the fields are very emerging in India and is a very good career opportunity for those who seek government jobs and a government job as a law officer.

5. Masters in Law

Now the next is to pursue the masters in the field of law once you have done your LLB. You have the career option to pursue the masters i.e. LLM

Once you pursue LLM under any of the specialised field of law i.e. Labour Law, Jurisprudence or any other field. You can be appointed as a lecturer and you can work as a Teacher or Lecturer in various renowned Universities and colleges Law Colleges in India.


6. Diploma Course

Now the next career opportunity is that you can pursue diploma course i.e. PG diploma course under law.

For example if you pursue under Labour Law you can be appointed as a Labour Law Officer, if you pursue diploma in Income Tax then you can be appointed as an income tax expert and if in Cyber Law you can be appointed as a Cyber Law expert.

So as per the diploma the vacancy or post is there so once you pursue a particular diploma you can be appointed under that particular vacancy.


7. Legal Journalism

Now one of the most interesting and emerging field now a days is the field of Legal Journalism.

Legal Journalism is a field under which the law students or the lawyers they provide services to the people connected with the field of journalism.

Actually what happens journalism is a field under which the people of mass communication usually the people who have pursued their studies in the field of journalism and mass communication so they do not have much command over the law. When it comes to analysing the legal judgements or any other verdicts that the courts have given in that case Lawyers play a vital role.

Therefore it is a very emerging and vital opportunity for the law students nowadays.


8. Research and Academics

Next career opportunity is in the field of Research and Academics

You can also work in research and academic. You can work for various journals ,research institutions in the field of law and various other fields. 

As it is presumed that Lawyers are good in speaking, Lawyers are good in writing, Lawyers are good in communicating 

All the three qualities we possess and that's why it is a very good career option for us.

9. NGOs

Next option is to work for NGOs Non Governmental Organisations they also provide good career opportunities and that's why you can also render your services to them.


10. LPOs

The last career opportunity for the law students  is under the Legal Process Outsourcing

Outsourcing is a field in which people from other countries they render their services and ask for the services from the people of other countries.

India is a hub for lawyers from the other countries who want services from the lawyers of India. So Legal Process Outsourcing is also a very good and emerging field in the field of law.
